Efflorescence Floristry is the home-based floral design studio of wedding and event florist Angel Dean Collins. A lifelong lover of nature and being outdoors, Angel’s hobby of arranging flowers for friends and special occasions developed into a passion for sustainable floristry.
For over a decade, Angel worked as an executive assistant to chief executives, planning various meetings, conferences, and special events. Early in her career, she managed catered events at a small historic hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where she planned every detail of both local and destination weddings. It was in these roles, watching everyday spaces transformed with flowers, that she began to truly appreciate the vision and artistry of floral designers.
While working her office job, Angel began arranging flowers regularly in 2015, providing wedding and event florals on commission as a side hustle. In 2020, she finally claimed her “Act II Career” as a floral designer at the age of 50. She chose Efflorescence, the scientific term for the process of blossoming, for her business name because Angel felt she was blossoming into a new career and a new stage of her life.
As her passion for flowers evolved into a pursuit, Angel considered the environmental impact of the floral industry and began researching the principles of sustainable floristry. She connected with flower farmers in the Washington, DC area and joined the team at Grateful Gardeners, where she helped flower farmers Sarah Daken and Tom Precht harvest stems and prepare bouquets and arrangements for their weekly farmers' markets. In 2022, Angel put her myriad skills to use in five different roles in the DC-area flower economy: operations manager at the Old Dominion Flower Company, luxury wedding floral designer with the Cedar & Lime Collective, markets manager for Grateful Gardeners, regular freelance work with The Virginia Florist, and also serving Angel's own clients through Efflorescence.
In late 2022, Angel and her husband, Keith, fell in love with seven acres in Pulaski County, where they now call home and intend to build a small flower farm to supply Angel’s designs. Both raised in rural small towns, Angel & Keith are excited to bring their "big city" experiences to benefit their new community in the New River Valley.
Angel Dean Collins grew up in a family-run business in the small town of Haleyville, Alabama. She earned a B.A. in English with a minor in History from the University of New Orleans at the age of 35. She's been happily married to Keith Brophy for over 22 years, has two rescue pups (Pheobe & Harper Lee), two grown daughters (Parker & Keller), and has recently entered her Grammie Era (grandson Marshall).

No two love stories are the same, so why should your flowers look like everyone else’s? At Efflorescence Floristry, we believe that every couple brings a unique energy to their union. We don’t believe in "standard packages" or looks. Instead, we design with intention.
Whether you are honoring deep-rooted family traditions, celebrating your shared values, or showcasing a style that is unapologetically "you," we are here for it! From the first idea to the final bloom, we customize every arrangement to reflect the texture of your personality and the heart of your celebration.

Seasonality
At Efflorescence Floristry, we prefer to work with nature, designing florals with blooms that are at their best each week of the growing season here in the Blue Ridge of Southwest Virginia.
Sourced Locally
The retail florist plays a very important role in the flower economy -- connecting you to flower growers, wherever they are in the world. At Efflorescence Floristry, we take that role seriously and prioritize sourcing flowers and foliage first from local growers, then American flower farmers, and, lastly, from importers. Sourcing local blooms in season allows us to create unique florals that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible.
Reduce | Reuse | Recycle
At Efflorescence, we live our eco-friendly principles by:
~ Reducing our landfill waste by composting all plant material.
~ Reducing our global footprint by buying local, whenever possible.
~ Reusing vases and vessels, often acquiring secondhand.
~ Recycling all packing materials, and "upcycling" items we find.
The Gift Goes On
At the end of your event, what will you do with all the leftover flowers? Efflorescence offers an option for repurposing your gorgeous blooms! As our team breaks down your florals, we can compose jar arrangements or small posy bouquets for gifts or donations to a local hospital or care facility. The joy you experienced at your wedding can also brighten someone's day!

A majority of retail florists operate from your local flower shop and rely on imported flowers to fulfill their daily orders. But Efflorescence is a home-based studio that specializes in weddings and special events. We order order flowers specifically for the events we service and do not have a brick-and-mortar store.
The biggest differences between Efflorescence Floristry and other florists are all the things you can't see:
~ 20+ years of events management experience, 10+ years of event floral design experience
~ How we're connected to principals, not a particular style concept. We love exercising our creativity in different ways, from a meadowy wildflower look to sculptural shapes and contrasting textures.
~ How we work with local and American growers to source your flowers and foliage, maximizing the freshness, seasonality, and beauty of your wedding flowers while contributing to our local and U.S. economy.
~ How we create your wedding flowers using sustainable design techniques, like flower frogs or coated chicken wire for structure, instead of the traditional flower foam.
~ Our willingness to try to work within almost any budget.
~ Our eagerness to try something new!
~ Our obsessive attention to detail.
Combined with a flexible pricing model that includes DIY support and large, full-service events, Efflorescence Floristry offers an approach that is personal, intentional, and grounded in relationships between people, plants, and places.
Efflorescence Floristry offers creative and seasonal floral designs specifically for weddings and special events. Our chief designer has over 10 years of experience creating event florals and over 20 years of experience planning and producing events.
Unlike a brick-and-mortar flower shop, our home-based studio does flowers only for special occasions. We source flowers and foliage specifically for your wedding. Efflorescence usually accepts only one client per wedding weekend, so your event will have our undivided attention.
We believe that wedding flowers are as personal as the couple getting married, so we listen to you and get to the core of what you want your day to be like. We then design florals to reflect your personality and preferences, creating an event specific to you and your love story.
Efflorescence sources from local growers, so we offer the highest-quality blooms for your bouquets while also stimulating the flower economy of the New River Valley.
We offer delivery and set-up at venues in the New River Valley and the Appalachian Highlands region of Southwest Virginia, including parts of West Virginia and North Carolina.
Couples choose Efflorescence Floristry when they value creativity, flexibility, and sustainability, and when they want guidance through the planning process. Whether providing full-service floral design or hands-on support for DIY weddings, our goals are always the same.
Our approach at Efflorescence Floristry begins with listening to you. Each wedding design starts with an understanding of your vision, priorities, and what you want your celebration to be — whether that’s large and splashy or small and understated.
Just like the hemline of a skirt or the silhouette of a suit, wedding flowers are a mirror of our culture at the time. They are design statements that evolve as our collective aesthetic tastes shift. At Efflorescence Floristry, we don’t believe a wedding should fit a pre-existing floral "template." Instead, we embrace a Style-Agnostic Philosophy for three specific reasons:
1. The Venue is the Canvas
A sleek, industrial loft in the city demands a different "outfit" than a sprawling coastal estate. By staying adaptive, we ensure the flowers enhance the architecture rather than clashing with it.
2. We Value Narrative over Trends
Trends tell you what is popular; your story tells us what is meaningful. If your heritage involves specific blooms or your first date was in a desert garden, we want to build around that—whether it fits the current "trend" or not.
3. Technical Mastery via Variety
By refusing to be "a boho studio" or "a classic studio," our design skills stay sharp. We understand the mechanics of a rigid 1920s-style pomander as well as the delicate balance of a contemporary, asymmetrical meadow installation.
Our designs are guided by seasonality and our sustainable floral design practices. We use inspirational photos to understand the mood and style you want to achieve, but our designs are thoughtfully adapted to what looks best at the time and is most appropriate for the occasion.
The result is wedding flowers that feel intentional rather than formulaic — beautiful and meaningful arrangements created with consideration for the growers, care for our environment, and celebrating your love story.
At Efflorescence Floristry, we believe the best blooms are the ones that haven't traveled across an ocean. If you are a local flower farmer or a hobbyist grower with seasonal blooms or healthy foliage, we’d love to hear from you!
Because most of our events are on weekends, we usually receive our floral inventory on Tuesday or Wednesdays of each week. That means local growers need to harvest on Sunday or Monday with 24-48 hours of conditioning for a Tuesday intake, or harvest Monday or Tuesday for a Wednesday intake.
Here’s how we typically work with local providers:
Save-The-Date Method
If you’re on our preferred growers list, we’ll share our booked dates and color and flower palette with you in advance. If you can supply any elements of our design, we ask you to save-the-date on your calendar. Approximately four to six weeks prior to each event, we’ll start talking about which elements of our design recipe you can fulfill. The week before delivery, we’ll confirm our final numbers, and you’ll confirm what you can provide.
This long-game timeframe and collaborative process allow us to source as much as possible from local growers and allows growers to anticipate demand for particular flowers.
Share Your Weekly Availability
Many growers produce a weekly or bi-weekly availability list via email, and we'd love to be on your mailing list! With that said, some smaller growers use text messaging or call us with updates on a regular basis. No matter what type of communication we work out, if you have flowers to sell, we want to hear from you!
What to Include: Varieties of flowers, types of foliage, stem lengths, and approximate quantities.
Photos: We'll need pics of your crop so we can see the color and quality before buying.
Price List: Share your price list, either per stem or per bunch.
Pick-up/Delivery: How will I get your flowers? Let me know what services are available.
